Tell Congress to Keep Children and Families Healthy Outdoors
June 28, 2014
America is facing a health crisis as children are spending more time indoors, and not getting the physical activity they need. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend that children engage in 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity every day, but we know that most children far short of this goal.
America’s children need more time outdoors. And experiences in nature—running, swimming, and playing in natural environments—offer unmatched opportunities for children to exercise, learn, and grow. The Healthy Kids Outdoors Act would support states in creating comprehensive strategies to get America’s children outdoors and active. You can show your support for this legislation by contacting your representatives in Congress to let them know that you care about getting children back outdoors.
The Sierra Club has created an easy-to-use online tool to help you contact your senators and representatives in Washington to tell them this is an issue you care about. Take action today to help reconnect our children with the great outdoors.
