We invite you to attend a research symposium focused on early childhood outdoor play at the University of MN Duluth, from noon to 3:30 PM on Friday, April 26th. The event will include lunch, presentations, and discussion about international perspectives on outdoor play in early childhood learning and development. Four researchers will highlight research and programs from China (Anji Childhood Education Research Center); University of Oulu, Finland; Queen Maud University College of Early Childhood Education, Norway; and the Duluth Nature Play Collaborative/University of MN Duluth in Minnesota. We are looking forward to an engaging afternoon of lectures and dialogue with other researchers and practitioners in the field of outdoor and nature-based play and learning. The day following the research symposium (Sat. April 27) will be a practitioner-oriented workshop, hosted by Duluth Nature Play Collaborative and MN Early Childhood Outdoors. Join us for the first UK Forest School Study Tour offered by ERAFANS! We will visit several nature-based early learning programs in Scotland and England during our adventurous 10-day trip. This study tour takes place during the school year so that we can observe children and UK practitioners engaged in outdoor learning. We will also participate in professional development workshops offered by select nature-based programs. Don't worry, we've built in some time for you to explore on your own, too!

After founding Wauchatchie School in Chattanooga, Tennessee in 2015, Dr. Jean Lomino’s passion quickly turned to reproduce the awesome learning environment offered by nature, to children everywhere. Jean established Forest School Teacher Institute (www.forestteacher.org) to train traditional teachers from around the globe to be nature teachers and to promote Forest School research. Training sites are currently being established throughout the US. The Growing Up Wild Curriculum Guide contains 27 hands-on, multi-disciplinary and instructionally sound educational activities for 3-7 year-olds. The Project WILD curriculum contains 154 hands-on, minds-on activities for grade K-12th. You will participate in hands-on activities highlighting wildlife populations, habitats and ecosystems, interdependence of animals on each other and the land, and adaptations animal have to survive. Presented by Georgia Project WILD and Georgia Association of Fish and Wildlife Agency.

The Nature Preschool Conference at Irvine Nature Center is an award-winning conference designed for educators of young children of all ages to learn about or improve their practices in nature-based education. The Environmental Education Association of Illinois (EEAI) is pleased to announce the Call for Proposals for the 2019 Conference and Annual Meeting, to be held in Mattoon, Illinois. EEAI invites you to submit proposals now through November 30, 2018. Submitting presenters will be notified of the outcome of the proposal review process no later than December 15, 2018. EEAI is a statewide, nonprofit, professional organization with the purpose of maintaining a vital network that supports and advances quality environmental education throughout the state. Our membership consists of classroom teachers, non-formal educators, natural resource professionals, professors, university students and nature enthusiasts. Participants attending the 2019 Annual Meeting and Conference will attend sessions designed around the theme “EE: Rooted for Life.” We invite you to participate by submitting a proposal for a session that can impact educators from across Illinois. Rachel Larimore, a former nature-based preschool director herself, will facilitate the connection between you and 14 other administrators from across the country over the course of 5 months. This e-course includes weekly (16) customized content, live videoconferencing calls (5), membership in a private Facebook group for cohort participants only, and one hour of one-on-one coaching with Rachel. In this course you’ll build your own professional network while also solving the challenges you face day-to-day in your role as an administrator.
