Nature Everywhere Conference

Policy Advisor Kit Harrington will be joining a TED-Style breakout session during May's Nature Everywhere Conference in St Paul, Minnesota! Muddy Little Boots: Nature Connection in Early Childhood will feature a presentation from Kit on Outdoor Nature-Based Preschool Licensing and Policy advancements alongside a number of other topics relating to nature-based early learning. 

This session additionally features TaylorMae Ippolito speaking about gardening in early childhood, Gaye Amus discussing how Finland inspired to a paradigm shift toward outdoor based learning in early childhood education in Turkey, and Laura Tadena on Austin Public Library's Nature Smart Library Initiative.

    Kit Harrington


    Kit Harrington grew up playing, learning, and exploring in the woods of central Vermont. She is a speaker, educator, organizer, and advocate for nature-based education, and the co-founder of one of the country's first outdoor preschools, the Fiddleheads Forest School at the University of Washington. In 2015, Kit founded the Washington Nature Preschool Association to support the regional growth of nature-based early childhood education and helped lead the country’s first successful effort to license outdoor nature-based childcare programs. A contributing writer behind the Nature-Based Preschool Professional Practice Guidebook, Kit now continues her work to improve equity and access to high-quality, inclusive nature based early childhood education experiences as Senior Policy Advisor for the Natural Start Alliance, where she supports the growing ONBECE Policy movement through efforts like the Regional Network Alliance and ONBECE Policy Huddle, and as the Director of Communications and Engagement for Voices for Vermont’s Children. Kit is passionate about creating spaces of belonging and inclusivity, fostering responsive networks in the service of community-led efforts for change, and being a mom to her two young boys.
