Brave Nature School is an outdoor anti-racist and consent-based microschool serving children and families across Greater New Haven, CT.

Our unique approach teaches community care principles while nurturing children's trust in themselves and their innate connection to the natural world.

At Brave Nature School we trust children. We respect the innate dignity, autonomy, and personhood of children. We believe in universal human rights including children's rights, the collective liberation of all peoples, and that all life forms and ecosystems are worthy of rights, care and deep respect.

We stand with the Land Back movement from North America to Palestine because the only way to move forward with our children in integrity towards a socially and ecologically just future is by acknowledging and redressing the harms of the past.

At Brave Nature School, we strive to embody an abolitionist mindset and practice. We live this out in a variety of ways, including by integrating conflict transformation rather than a punitive disciplinary approach. An abolitionist mindset intersects with our consent-based approach as we are mindful of power dynamics between grown-ups and children, humans and other life forms, and we avoid coercive language and behaviors.
