Greenwood Trail Forest School

Greenwood Trail School is a fully outdoor, nature-based early childhood program serving children ages 2 to 5 in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco. Our days are built around child-led learning, outdoor play, hands-on projects, exploration, and meaningful connection with nature. Children climb, dig, hike, observe, create, and discover while building confidence, independence, social-emotional skills, and kindergarten readiness.

Our small-group environment allows teachers to support each child closely while encouraging curiosity, safe risk-taking, resilience, and respect for the natural world. Our program moves between 19 different outdoor locations throughout Golden Gate Park, including Ocean Beach, giving children a wide range of natural environments to explore. We also include meaningful field experiences to places such as the San Francisco Zoo, Aquarium of the Bay, and the California Academy of Sciences.
